The Hawk

Bird of Prey…Somethng to definitely worry about when you are raising chickens.  A hawk came down Saturday morning and ate one of the young chickens.  The hawk did the unthinkable.  It ate the chicken alive.  It tore out its feathers and ate the filet on the back of the chicken.  It then left the rest of the chicken there in the pen, and the girls the hens finished the job.  Chickens are cannibals.  Soon as they see blood on anything they go after it.  It wasn’t a pretty site and I have to say it was quite upsetting.  Yesterday, I didn’t let the chickens out because I didn’t want the hawks doing it again.  It’s a free and easy meal for the hawks.  They have as much chicken as they want, and I was afraid they’d keep coming down for more.  Today I’m going to run fishing line across the top of the pen, so the hawks cannot swoop down for a free meal.
